Instructions on how to turn on JavaScript
Our website requires JavaScript (scripting) to be turned on in order to be able to experience the multi-media apps, graphics, and navigation systems. JavaScript is turned on by default by all web
browsers, but some aggressive anti-virus, anti-spyware programs or overly helpful friends may disable it.
Below are instructions for various web browsers on various operatings systems to re-enable scripting in your browser.
If you do not find instructions below for your present setup, try using Google to search for instructions.
- Go to http://google.com
- Type in your browser (ie. Firefox), it’s version (ie. 2), and your operating system (ie. Windows XP) plus the phrase "turn on
javascript".
- Alternately, use the Help menu on your web browser or go to the website for your browser.
To turn on JavaScript, follow the directions below:
Microsoft Internet Explorer
- Select Internet Options from the Tools menu.
- Click the Security tab.
- Seclect the Internet Zone.
- Click the button near the bottom that says Default Level.
- Click OK to leave Security Settings.
- Click OK to leave Internet Options.
- Select Explorer under OS X or Edit under earlier OSs from the menu bar and click on Preferences....
- Click on triangle next to Web Browser to open sub-menu if needed.
- Under Active Content, click on checkbox next to Enable Scripting
- Click the OK button.
- Select Internet Options from the View menu.
- Click the Security tab.
- Set the security level for this zone to Custom (for expert users).
- Click the Settings button (to the right of Custom).
- Scroll to the bottom of the list and enable Active scripting.
- Click the OK button to close the Security Settings window.
Click OK to close the Internet Options window.
Suggest Upgrading to a modern web browser.
- Click the Preferences icon in the Toolbar.
- Click the Web Content icon under Web Browser.
- In Active Content, check the box next to Enable scripting. Click the OK button.

Firefox
- Select Tools from the menu bar and click on Options.
- Click on Content to show additional options.
- Click on the checkbox next to Enable JavaScript.
- Click the OK button.
- Select Tools from the menu bar and click on Options.
- Click on Content to show additional options.
- Click on the checkbox next to Enable JavaScript.
- Click the OK button.
- Select Tools from the menu bar and click on Options.
- Click on Content to show additional options.
- Click on the checkbox next to Enable JavaScript.
- Click the OK button.
- Select Tools from the menu bar and click on Options.
- Click on Web Features to show additional options.
- Click on the checkbox next to Enable JavaScript.
- Click the OK button.
Mozilla
- Select Edit from the menu bar and click on Preferences.
- Click on plus sign next to Advanced to show Advanced options.
- Click on Scripts & Plugins.
- Click on the checkbox next to Navigator under Enable JavaScript for.
- Click the OK button.
- Close this window and Click the Reload button in the browser’s row of icons.
- Select Mozilla under OS X or Edit under earlier OSs from the menu bar and click on Preferences.... Click on triangle next to Advanced to open sub-menu if needed.
- Click on Scripts & Plugins.
- Click on checkbox next to Navigator under Enable JavaScript for.
- Click the OK button.
- Close this window and Click the Reload button in the browser’s row of icons.
Netscape
- From the Tools drop-down menu at the top of the browser, select Options….
- On the left side of the dialog box, click the Site Controls category.
- Under My Settings, select americanfunds.com in the list.
- Under Web Features on the right side of the dialog box, make sure that Enable JavaScript/VBScript and Enable Java are checked.
- Click OK.
- Select Preferences from the Edit menu.
- Click Advanced on the left side of the dialog box.
- Check the box next to Enable Java. Click the OK button.
- Select Netscape under OS X or Edit under earlier OSs from the menu bar and click on Preferences....
- Click on triangle next to Advanced to open sub-menu if needed.
- Click on Scripts & Plugins.
- Click on checkbox next to Navigator under Enable JavaScript for.
- Click the OK button.
- Close this window and Click the Reload button in the browser’s row of icons.
- Select Edit from the menu bar and click on Preferences.
- Select the Advanced option.
- Click on checkbox next to Enable JavaScript for Navigator
- Click the OK button.
- Close this window and Click the Reload button in the browser’s row of icons.
- Select Edit from the menu bar and click on Preferences.
- Select the Advanced option.
- Click on checkbox next to Enable JavaScript.
- Click the OK button.
- Close this window and Click the Reload button in the browser’s row of icons.
Safari
- Select Safari from the menu bar and click on Preferences....
- Click on the Security icon.
- Click on checkbox next to Enable JavaScript.
- Close that window.
- Close this window and Click the Reload button in the browser’s row of icons.
- Select Edit from the menu bar and click on Preferences....
- Click on the Security icon.
- Click on checkbox next to Enable JavaScript.
- Close that window.
- Close this window and Click the Reload button in the browser’s row of icons.
Opera
- Push your F12 button to bring up Quick Preferences or click on the Tools menu and select Quick Preferences.
- Click on the option to Enable JavaScript.
- Reload (Ctrl+R) the page you were trying to view.
- Select File from the menu bar and click on Quick preferences.
- Click on the checkbox next to Enable JavaScript.
- Close this window and Click the Reload button in the browser’s row of icons.
America Online
- Select Settings.
- Select Preferences.
- Select Internet Properties.
- Select Custom Level.
- Scroll down the Custom Level screen to Scripting.
- Enable Active Scripting.
- Select Okay.
- Select Yes that you want to change the security settings.
- Select Okay.
- Close the Preferneces window.
- Close this window and Click the Reload button in the browser’s row of icons.
- Select AOL from the menu bar and click on Preferences....
- Click on the www icon in the scrolling list on the left side.
- Click on the Content tab.
- Click on checkbox next to Enable Javascript.
- Click the OK button.
- Close this window and Click the Reload button in the browser’s row of icons.
