Chesterfield is a young, vibrant city that counts large commercial centers, pristine parklands, and luxurious communities among its many advantages. What was once a long stretch of farmland along the Missouri River is now home to significant economic, industrial, and residential developments. The city was not incorporated until 1988, and its newness is an asset. As previously undeveloped land became open for occupation, prospective residents and business leaders alike saw opportunity in the Chesterfield Valley. The development of Interstate 64 allowed the municipality to become a productive and fully integrated city within St. Louis County. Chesterfield occupies a coveted location only 25 miles away from St. Louis' city limits. As a result, this spacious city is only a short commute away from downtown industry and attractions.

Justus Post, the forefather of modern-day Chesterfield, moved to the area from Vermont in 1815. By 1817, he had acquired more than 21,000 acres as a land speculator and planned the area's first town. Although uses for it were planned, the land was mostly unoccupied until railroad tracks ran through the area, providing a source for trade and exchange of information. Chesterfield existed as a railroad-centered hub until the 1960s, when Louis Sachs developed housing and office buildings in Chesterfield Village. Modern-day Chesterfield then began to take shape. This process was completed in 1988 with the city's incorporation. The community no longer gathers around railroad tracks that promised an exchange of goods and ideas. Instead, a streamlined network of roads allows for easy access to the hub of St. Louis City. This efficient means of transportation has also drawn businesses westward, leading corporations to further the commercial sector of this picturesque West County suburb.

The housing market is flourishing as new residents flock to previously undeveloped spaces. Median home values have risen steadily over the last 5 years. Chesterfield's newness is reflected by the city's diverse array of modern housing options. Modern detached residences are available, as well as contemporary townhomes and condominiums. Whether residents live in a cutting-edge condominium complex or in a stately brick home, they can be assured of beautiful surrounding scenery. A master plan for Chesterfield Village, a 1,500-acre commercial and residential development, ensures that 40% of the village's acreage will remain green. Similar conservation efforts are common throughout the city. While the community is developing quickly, the municipality's spacious public lands are protected and maintained.

Chesterfield's Parks, Recreation, and Arts department ensures that residents can enjoy open community spaces to the fullest extent. Faust Park features the Sophia M Sachs Butterfly House, an attraction partnered with the Missouri Botanical Garden that showcases colorful and rare butterflies in a beautifully-manicured habitat. 38-acre Central Park features striking sculptures as part of its Art in the Park initiative. The Chesterfield Amphitheater is located within the parklands and attracts crowds as large as 4,000 people. Summertime concerts in the open-air amphitheater are truly highlights and draw thousands of visitors from the surrounding area. While Chesterfield boasts over one hundred acres of parkland, natural landscapes aren't the only attractions in the area. A bustling retail district and commercial center serves residents' needs and provides entertainment. Chesterfield Commons is a strip shopping center encompassing over 2 million square feet. This sprawling center of commerce hosts large chain retailers, local boutiques, and upscale restaurants. Chesterfield Mall offers a comprehensive retail experience as well as a large movie theater. Air travel is easily accessible through Spirit of St. Louis Airport, which serves both corporate and private travel and houses an office park as well.

Students in Chesterfield are served by the Parkway and Rockwood school districts. Both districts have received the Missouri Department of Education's AAA rating, the highest rating possible. There are also 8 private and faith-based schools that provide outstanding schooling options.
